Moraiyo Khichdi | Navratri Vrat Recipes | Navratri 2018

With hot green chillies, jeera and kadi patta this spicy upvas rice made up of varai/moraiyo is a perfect meal for your agiyaras or shravan upvas. Recipe: Ingredients:
  • 4 -5 Green chillies (Hari Mirch)
  • Handful of Coriander Leaves (Dhania)
  • Handful of Roasted Peanuts (Singdana)
  • 1 Cup of Varai/Moraiyo/Sama ke Chawal
  • 8-10 Curry Leaves (Kadi Patta)
  • 1 Teaspoon of Cumin Seeds (Jeera Powder)
  • 1 Small Cinnamon Stick (Dalchini)
  • 3 Cloves (Laung)
  • 2 Teaspoons of Clarified Butter (Ghee)
  • Water
  • Salt
  1. Make a paste of green chillies, coriander and peanuts as per the measurements given.
  2. In deep bottomed vessel take 2 teaspoons of ghee.
  3. Add cumin seeds and curry leaves ( kaddi patta). Stir it well.
  4. Add cinnamon (dalchini) and cloves (laung) to the mixture.
  5. Now add the previously made green chillies-coriander-peanuts paste and cook it well.
  6. Add the moraiyo/sama/varai to the mixture and mix it well.
  7. Pour 2 cups of water and let the mixture boil.
  8. Once it starts boiling close the lid and cook for 5-7 minutes.
  9. Once the water is soaked by the rice, your spicy upvas rice is ready.
