Dudhi Chana Dal Recipe | Gujarati Shaak Recipe | Gujarati Rasoi

Dudhi Chana Dal Nu Shaak is a popular everyday Gujarati recipe. This recipe consists of dudhi and chana dal cooked with red chillies, cinnamon, curry leaves and other traditional Gujarati spices. Addition of lemon juice and jaggery gives the authentic Gujarati taste to the recipe. In this recipe to fasten the process we have used the pressure cooker. Recipe: Ingredients –
  • 1 Cup Soaked Split Chana Dal
  • 500 Grams Diced Bottle Gourd
  • 2 Dried Red Chillies
  • 2 Cinnamon Sticks
  • 8-10 Curry Leaves
  • 1 Teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • ½ Teaspoon Asafoetida
  • ½ Teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 2 Teaspoon Dhana Jeera Powder
  • 2 Teaspoon Red Chilli Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Dal Shak Masala
  • Juice of ½ Lemon
  • 1 Teaspoon Jaggery
  • Salt
  • Coriander Leaves
  • Oil
  • Water
Method –
  1. In a pressure cooker heat some oil and add cumin seeds, asafoetida, dried red chillies, cinnamon and curry leaves.
  2. Add bottle gourd and chana dal.
  3. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Now add turmeric powder, dhana jeera powder, red chilli powder, dal shak masala and salt.
  5. Add lemon juice and jaggery.
  6. Add adequate amount of water and stir well.
  7. Cook for 2-3 whistles.
  8. Garnish with some coriander leaves and Dudhi Chana Da Nu Shaak is ready to eat.
