Recipe:
Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup Rice
  • 1 Cup Mix Dal (Moong Dal, Tur Dal and Green Tur Moong Dal)
  • 1 Finely Chopped Tomato
  • 1 Chopped Potato
  • 2-3 Chopped Brinjals
  • 1 Chopped Carrot
  • 50 Grams Chopped Bottle Gourd (Lauki)
  • 100 Grams of Green Peas (Matar)
  • 1-2 Tablespoons of Peanuts (Singdana)
  • 1 Tablespoon Grated Coconut (Nariyal)
  • 1 Finely Chopped Green Chilies (Hari Mirch)
  • 1-1.5 Inch Finely Chopped Ginger (Adrak)
  • 2-3 Dried Red Chilies (Sukhi Lal Mirch)
  • 2 Bay Leaves (Tej Patta)
  • 5-6 Cloves (Laung)
  • 3-4 Cinnamon Sticks (Dalchini)
  • 6-7 Black Peppercorns (Sabut Kali Mirch)
  • 1 Teaspoon Mustard Seeds (Rai)
  • 1 Teaspoon Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
  • ½ Teaspoon Turmeric Powder (Haldi)
  • 1-1.5 Teaspoon Dhana Jeera Powder
  • 1.5-2 Teaspoon Red Chilli (Lal Mirch) Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Garam Masala
  • Coriander Leaves (Dhania)
  • Salt
  • Water
  • Oil
  • Ghee

Procedure:

  1. Soak rice, moong dal, tur dal and green moong dal for 1-1.5 hours.
  2. Heat some oil and add 1 tablespoon of ghee. Let it heat and then add mustard seeds, cumin seed, cloves, cinnamon sticks, bay leaf, black pepper corns, dried red chilies, finely chopped green chili and finely chopped ginger. Stir well.
  3. Add finely chopped tomato, peanuts and grated coconut. Stir till tomato becomes soft.
  4. Add potatoes, brinjals, carrot, bottle gourd and green peas. Cook it for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Add turmeric powder, dhana jeera powder, red chili powder and garam masala. Mix well.
  6. Drain the soaked rice and dal and add it. Mix well.
  7. Add water and salt. Stir well. Add around 4-5 cups of water. Close lid and cook for 2-3 whistles.
  8. Let the cooker cool down and then add ghee, coriander leaves and grated coconut. Jalaram Khichdi is ready.
