Chana Masala Recipe
Today we will make quick and tasty Chana Nu Shaak recipe. This chana nu shaak recipe in Gujarati is prepared in pressure cooker. With some simple masalas this recipe can be prepared for lunch. Chana Masala Recipe Video :


  • 200-250 Grams of Chana
  • 1-2 Finely Chopped Onion
  • Puree of 2 Tomatoes
  • 1.5-2 Teaspoon Ginger-Garlic (Adrak-Lehsun) Paste
  • 1 Teaspoon Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
  • ½ Teaspoon Asafoetida (Hing)
  • 1 Bay Lead (Tej Patta)
  • 2 Black Cardamom (Badi Elaichi)
  • 2 Dried Red Chilies (Sukhi Lal Mirch)
  • ½ Teaspoon Turmeric Powder (Haldi)
  • 1-1.5 Teaspoon Dhana Jeera Powder
  • 1.5-2 Teaspoon Red Chili (Lal Mirch) Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Chana Masala or Garam Masala
  • Coriander Leaves (Dhania)
  • Salt
  • Water
  • Oil


  1. Wash chana well 3-4 times and then soak it for 4-5 hours.
  2. Heat some oil in a pressure cooker and add cumin seeds, asafoetida, bay leaf, black cardamom and dried red chilies. Sauté it well.
  3. Add finely chopped onion. Stir till it turns golden brown.
  4. Add ginger-garlic paste and stir well.
  5. Add tomato puree and cook it well till oil separates.
  6. Add turmeric powder, dhana jeera powder, red chili powder and chana masala. If you don’t have chana masala you can add garam masala.
  7. Add some coriander leaves and sauté it well.
  8. Drain the water of chana into a jug. Add the chana to the pressure cooker and stir will in the masala. The water used to soak chana is rich in nutrients and hence we will use it for cooking.
  9. Add salt as per taste and mix well.
  10. Add water and stir well. Close lid and pressure cook for 7-8 whistles.
  11. After it is cooked garnish it with some coriander leaves and our chana masala is ready.
