Coconut gives a nice taste to this dal recipe. This dal is very quick to make and can be a good alternative for your lunch or dinner. Recipe: 

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup Tur Dal
  • ¼ Cup Grated Dried Coconut (Sukka Nariyal)
  • 1 Teaspoon Mustard Seeds (Rai)
  • 1 Teaspoon Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
  • ½ Teaspoon Asafoetida (Hing)
  • 8-10 Finely Chopped Garlic Cloves (Lehsun)
  • 10-12 Curry Leaves (Kadi Patta)
  • ½ Teaspoon Turmeric Powder (Haldi)
  • 1-1.5 Teaspoon Dhana Jeera Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Kashmiri Red Chili (Lal Mirch) Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Garam Masala
  • Salt

Procedure:

  1. In pressure cooker boil tur dal. It will take around 4-5 whistles to boil the dal. After the dal is boiled whisk it well.
  2. For tadka heat some oil and mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida, garlic cloves and curry leaves. Stir it well till garlic becomes golden brown.
  3. Add finely chopped tomato. Add salt if required to cook the tomatoes. Close lid till tomato becomes soft.
  4. Add turmeric powder, dhana jeera powder, red chili powder, garam masala and grated dried coconut. Roast the coconut well. Pour the whisked dal and stir well.
  5. Add water as per requirement and let the dal boil well.
  6. Once it starts to boil add salt and coriander leaves. Dal is ready.
