Fada Khichdi

Ingredients:
  • 1.5 Cups of Fada (Daliya)
  • ½ Cup Moong Dal
  • 1 Finely Chopped Onion
  • 1 Finely Chopped Tomato
  • 100-150 Grams of Green Peas (Matar)
  • 50-100 Grams of French Beans (Fansi)
  • 2 Chopped Carrots (Gajar)
  • 1 Chopped Potato
  • 1-1.5 Inch Finely Chopped Ginger (Adrak)
  • 8-10 Finely Chopped Garlic Cloves (Lehsun)
  • 2 Dried Red Chilies (Sukhi Lal Mirch)
  • 8-10 Curry Leaves (Kadi Patta)
  • 1 Teaspoon Mustard Seeds (Rai)
  • 1 Teaspoon Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
  • ½ Teaspoon Turmeric Powder (Haldi)
  • 1-1.5 Teaspoon Dhana Jeera Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Red Chili (Lal Mirch) Powder
  • ¾ Teaspoon Garam Masala
  • Salt
  • Water
  • Ghee
Procedure:
  1. Soak fada and moong dal for 15 minutes.
  2. Heat some ghee in a pressure cooker. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, dried red chilies, curry leaves, finely chopped ginger and finely chopped garlic cloves. Sauté them well.
  3. Add finely chopped onion and stir till it turns golden brown.
  4. Add chopped tomato, green peas, french beans, carrots and potato. Stir well.
  5. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, dhana jeera powder, garam masala and salt. Mix well.
  6. Add soaked and drained fada and moong dal. Sauté it well for 2-3 minutes.
  7. Add water as per requirement and stir well. Add around 4 cups of water.
  8. Close lid and pressure cook for 1-2 whistles.
  9. Garnish it with coriander leaves and top it with ghee. Fada Khichdi is ready.
