Fafda Gujarati Recipe

Recipe:
Ingredients:
  • 2 Cups of Gram Flour (Besan)
  • ½ Teaspoon Asafoetida (Hing)
  • ½ Teaspoon Turmeric Powder (Haldi)
  • 1 Teaspoon Carom Seeds (Ajwain)
  • ¾ Teaspoon Papad Khar
  • Salt
  • 2-3 Teaspoons of Oil
  • Water
Procedure:
  1. Make sure you pass the gram flour through a hole sieve to have a nice and fine flour for making fafda at home.
  2. In gram flour add asafoetida, turmeric powder, carom seeds, papad khar and oil. Mix it well till the oil is absorbed well in the flour and the papad khar is mixed evenly.
  3. Add water and knead a soft and sticky dough.
  4. Now on a rolling pin apply some oil. Take a small portion of the dough and make a cylindrical shape. Place it on rolling pin and with your finger tips flatten it. Now with rolling pin stretch it vertically to make a Fafda. You can also stretch it with the lower portion of the palm but it requires practice to perfect. With a rolling pin it is quite easy.
  5. Now heat oil in a kadhai and deep fry the fafda. Make sure no bubbles appear on the fafda, if they do appear press them with your frying spoon. Once the fafda is ready remove it in a bowl.
