Rajasthani Dal Bati Easy Recipe

Recipe: Ingredients: To Boil Dal:
  • 1 Cup Green Moong Dal
  • ¼ Cup Chana Dal
  • ½ Teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • Salt
  • Water
To Prepare Dal:
  • 1 Finely Chopped Onion
  • 1 Finely Chopped Tomato
  • 1-1.5 Inch Finely Chopped Ginger (Adrak)
  • 3-4 Finely Chopped Green Chilies (Hari Mirch)
  • 8-10 Finely Chopped Garlic Cloves (Lehsun)
  • 8-10 Curry Leaves (Kadi Patta)
  • 2 Dried Red Chilies (Lal Sukhi Mirch)
  • 1 Teaspoon Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
  • ¼ Teaspoon Asafoetida (Hing)
  • ½ Teaspoon Turmeric Powder (Haldi)
  • 1-1.5 Teaspoon Red Chili (Lal Mirch) Powder
  • 1-1.5 Teaspoon Dhana Jeera Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Garam Masala
  • Finely Chopped Coriander Leaves (Dhania)
  • Salt
  • Ghee
  • Water
To Make Batis:
  • 2 Cups of Wheat Flour (Gehun)
  • 1 Tablespoon Semolina (Rava)
  • 1 Teaspoon Carom Seeds (Ajwain)
  • 1 Teaspoon Coarsely Grinded Coriander Seeds (Sabut Dhania)
  • 2 Pinch Baking Soda
  • 4-5 Tablespoon of Melted Ghee
  • Salt
  • Water
Procedure:
  1. In a cooker add green moong dal, chana dal, turmeric powder, salt and water to boil the dal. Pressure cook it for 4-5 whistles.
  2. Our dal is boiled, now we will whisk it well.
  3. For making dal heat some ghee in a kadhai and add cumin seeds, asafoetida, curry leaves, dried red chilies, garlic cloves, green chilies and ginger. Stir well.
  4. Now add finely chopped onion and stir till it turns transparent. Add chopped tomato and sauté it well.
  5. Add turmeric powder, dhana jeera powder, red chili powder and salt. Mix well.
  6. Add boiled & whisked dal and stir well. Add some water as per requirement and let it come to a boil.
  7. Now add garam masala and coriander leaves. Mix well. Our Dal is ready.
  8. For Batis in wheat flour add semolina, carom seeds, coarsely grinded coriander seeds, bakig soda and salt. Mix it well. Now add melted ghee gradually and mix it well. Ghee should be completely absorbed and dough should bind easily. Now add water and knead a firm dough. The dough should be firmer than roti dough but soft than puri dough. Cover it and let it rest for 15-20 minutes.
  9. After 15 minutes knead a dough a little bit and take a portion of the dough and make bati out of it.
  10. Now in a kadhai keep a stand, on the stand keep a hole sieve. Close lid and preheat on slow gas for 10 minutes.
  11. Place the batis on the hole sieve with some space between them. Close lid and cook for 30 minutes on low to medium flame. In between after every 10 minutes turn them. Cook them nice golden brown. Cracks should appear on the bati which ensures that the bati cooked well from inside.
  12. Now dip the lukewarm batis in melted ghee and let it absorb the ghee well.
  13. Serve these batis with hot dal. Easy Rajasthani Dal Bati recipe ready to eat.
