Gujarati Dal Vada

Recipe: Ingredients:
  • 2 Cups Chana Dal
  • ½ Cup Moong Dal
  • ½ Cup Rice Flour (Chawal ka Atta)
  • 1 Cup Grated Beetroot
  • 1 Cup Finely Chopped Onion
  • 1-1.5 Inch Finely Chopped Ginger (Adrak)
  • 4-5 Finely Chopped Green Chilies (Hari Mirch)
  • 1 Teaspoon Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
  • ½ Teaspoon Asafoetida (Hing)
  • 1.5-2 Teaspoon Red Chili (Lal Mirch) Powder
  • 1-1.5 Teaspoon Dhana Jeera Powder
  • ½ Teaspoon Turmeric Powder (Haldi)
  • Finely Chopped Coriander Leaves (Dhania)
  • Salt
  • Oil
Procedure:
  1. Soak chana dal and moong dal for 5-6 hours in water. Drain the water and grind it coarsely.
  2. In this dal mixture add rice flour, finely chopped onion, grated beetroot, turmeric powder, dhana jeera powder, red chili powder, cumin seeds, asafoetida, finely chopped green chilies, finely chopped ginger, coriander leaves and salt. Mix well. You won’t require water to prepare the batter.
  3. Now prepare vadas from the batter and deep fry them in oil.
  4. Make them nice brown and crunchy. Serve it with chutney or sauce.
