Bardoli Khichdi

  • 2 Cups of Rice
  • 1 Cup of Tur Dal
  • 1 Diced Raw Mango
  • 2 Diced Potatoes
  • ½ Cup Green Peas (Mattar)
  • 2 Lengthwise Chopped Onions
  • 2 Finely Chopped Green Chilies (Hari Mirch)
  • 1-1.5 Inch Finely Chopped Ginger (Adrak)
  • 1 Teaspoon Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
  • ½ Teaspoon Asafoetida (Hing)
  • ½ Teaspoon Turmeric Powder (Haldi)
  • 1-1.5 Teaspoon Red Chili (Lal Mirch) Powder
  • Ghee
  1. Heat some ghee and add cumin seeds, asafoetida, finely chopped green chilies, finely chopped ginger and stir well.
  2. Add chopped onions and stir till it turns transparent.
  3. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder and mix well.
  4. Add diced potatoes and sauté it well.
  5. Add raw mangoes and green peas. Mix well.
  6. Add salt to cook the vegetables. Close lid and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  7. Add washed rice and tur dal. Mix well.
  8. Add salt, sugar and some water. Stir well and let it come to a boil.
  9. Add some ghee from top and give it a stir. Close lid and cook for 15-20 minutes. In between you can open lid and stir so that the khichdi doesn’t stick to bottom. Bardoli Khcihdi is ready.
