Palak Muthia - Gujarati Muthia Recipe - Easy Muthias

Muthia is a popular farsan of Gujarat. Muthias are prepared using a dough of wheat flour and vegetables. The dough is then divided into portions and fist sized muthias are prepared. These muthias are steamed and then are stir fried in tempering. In this recipe we will make muthias using spinach. Palak Muthias are extremely delicious and are very easy to make at home. This muthia recipe is very quick to prepare.
Recipe:
Ingredients:
  • 250 Grams of Spinach (Palak)
  • 1.5 Cup Coarse Wheat Flour (Gehun Ka Atta)
  • ¾ Cup Wheat Flour (Gehun Ka Atta)
  • ½ Cup Gram Flour (Besan)
  • 3-4 Teaspoons of Curd
  • 1.5-2 Teaspoon Green Chili-Garlic (Hari Mirch-Lehsun) Paste
  • ½ Teaspoon Turmeric Powder (Haldi)
  • 1 Teaspoon Red Chili (Lal Mirch) Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Dhana Jeera
  • 1 Teaspoon Carom Seeds (Ajwain)
  • Coriander Leaves (Dhania)
  • Water
  • Oil
  • Salt
For Tempering:
  • 1 Teaspoon Mustard Seeds (Rai)
  • 1 Teaspoon Sesame Seeds (Til)
  • Oil
Procedure:
  1. Finely Chop Spinach and wash it well. Drain the water.
  2. In coarse wheat flour add normal wheat flour, gram flour, chopped spinach, green chili-garlic paste, turmeric powder, dhana jeera powder, red chili powder, carom seeds, salt, curd, coriander leaves and mix well.
  3. Add some oil and knead it well. Add water if required to prepare the dough.
  4. Apply oil to a hole sieve. Prepare muthias from the dougha dn place it on the hole sieve.
  5. In a deep bottomed utensil heat some water and place the hole sieve over it. Close lid and steam it for 20 minutes.
  6. Once ready cut muthias into pieces.
  7. For tempering heat some oil and add mustard seeds and sesame seeds. Add the muthia pieces and stir fry them. Palak Muthias are ready to eat.
