Mag Ni Dal - Gujarat Moong Dal Recipe - Gujarati Recipes

Recipe:
Ingredients:
  • 250 Grams of Moong Dal
  • 1 Finely Chopped Onion
  • 1 Finely Chopped Tomato
  • 1 Inch Finely Chopped Ginger (Adrak)
  • 3-4 Lengthwise Chopped Green Chilies (Hari Mirch)
  • ½ Teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Red Chili (Lal Mirch) Powder
  • Juice of 1 Lemon
  • Coriander Leaves
  • Salt
  • Oil
  • Water
For Tadka:
  • 2-3 Dried Red Chilies (Lal Sukhi Mirch)
  • 8-10 Curry Leaves (Kadi Patta)
  • 8-10 Finely Chopped Garlic Cloves (Lehsun)
  • 1 Teaspoon Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
  • ¼ Teaspoon Asafoetida (Hing)
  • ½ Teaspoon Garam Masala
  • ½ Teaspoon Red Chili (Lal Mirch) Powder
  • Ghee
Procedure:
  1. Heat oil in a pressure cooker and add chopped onion. Stir till it turns golden brown.
  2. Add finely chopped ginger, green chilies and finely chopped tomato. Stir till tomato becomes soft.
  3. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder and mix well. Add washed moong dal and mix well.
  4. Add salt and water. Mix well. Close lid and pressure cooker for 2-3 whistles.
  5. For tadka heat some ghee and add cumin seeds, asafoetida, curry leaves, dried red chilies, garlic cloves and stir well. Once the garlic turns golden brown add garam masala and red chili powder. Stir well and add this tadka to the dal.
  6. Add lemon juice and coriander leaves. Mix well and Moong Dal is ready.
