Maah Ki Dal - Punjabi Dal Recipe Dhaba Style - Dinner Recipe Ideas

We will prepare authentic Punjabi Dal recipe known as Maa Ki Dal. This Dal consists of rajma, urad dal, which makes this dal highly nutritious. Moreover this dal is prepared in ghee and butter to give it an authentic Punjabi taste. You can enjoy this recipe with Naan or with Paratha or with even rice.
Recipe:
Ingredients:
  • 1 Cup Sabut Urad
  • ¼ Cup Rajma
  • 2 Finely Chopped Onions
  • 2 Finely Chopped Tomatoes
  • 1-2 Teaspoon Ginger-Garlic (Adrak-Lehsun) Paste
  • 1 Teaspoon Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
  • 2-3 Finely Chopped Green Chilies (Hari Mirch)
  • ½ Teaspoon Turmeric Powder (Haldi)
  • 1-1.5 Teaspoon Red Chili (Lal Mirch) Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Garam Masla
  • Salt
  • Water
  • Ghee
Procedure:
  1. Soak Urad and Rajma for 5-6 hours and then pressure cook for 5-6 whistles. Mash the cooked dal.
  2. Heat some ghee and add cumin seeds, chopped green chilies, ginger-garlic paste and sauté it well.
  3. Add chopped onions and stir till it turns golden brown.
  4. Add finely chopped tomato and stir it well.
  5. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala and salt. Mix well.
  6. Add the boiled dal and mix well. Add some water and stir well. Close lid and cook for 15-20 minutes on low flame.
  7. Punjabi Dal is ready.
