Malpua - Diwali Sweet Recipe - Diwali Recipes in Gujarati

Malpua is a traditional Indian dessert which is prepared on the festive occasion like Diwali. Malpua is a simple preparation of flour and cream pancakes dipped in a flavored sugar syrup. This sugar syrup and can flavored in multiple ways but the most common is using kesar and cardamom powder. In this recipe we will shallow fry the malpua instead of deep frying it to make it little health conscious.
Recipe:
Ingredients:
  • 2 Cups of Plain Flour (Malai)
  • 1.5 Cup of Cream
  • Milk
  • Ghee
For Sugar Syrup:
  • 1 Cup Sugar
  • 1 Cup of Water
  • 1 Teaspoon Cardamom (Elaichi) Powder
  • Juice of ½ Lemon
  • Kesar
Procedure:
  1. In plain flour add cream and prepare the batter. You can add milk to get a little bit thick consistency.
  2. Now we will prepare the sugar syrup. In a pan add sugar and water. Let the sugar dissolve well and prepare 1 thread consistency syrup. Switch off the gas and cardamom powder, saffron and lemon juice. We have added lemon juice to avoid the syrup to solidify.
  3. Now on a tawa add some ghee and pour the malpua batter. Prepare round shaped and little bit thick malpua. Roast it well from both sides till they become brown.
  4. Dip the malpuas in sugar syrup and let it absorb the syrup. Our malpuas for Diwali are ready.
