Ratalu - Bateta Nu Farali Shaak - Navratri Upvas Recipe by Gujarati Rasoi

Navratri has begun and so is the upvas of Navratri. This Navratri we would like to bring easy and quick upvas recipes which you can make for your Navratri upvas. In this recipe we will make a quick curry consisting of potatoes and purple yam or ratalu (kand). This Kand Bataka Nu Shaak is very easy to make. It can be served either with Farali Rotlo or with Moraiyo Khichdi. Try out this recipe and let us know about the taste in the comment box.
For Curd Mixture:
  • 1.5 Cups of Curd (Dahi)
  • ½ Cup Rajgira Flour
  • 1 Teaspoon Sugar
  • Salt
  • Water
For Making Sabzi:
  • 2 Diced Potatoes
  • 150-200 Grams of Diced Purple Yam (Kand)
  • 1-1.5 Teaspoon Green Chili-Ginger (Hari Mirch-Adrak) Paste
  • 1 Teaspoon Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
  • 8-10 Curry Leaves (Kadi Patta)
  • Coriander Leaves (Dhania)
  • Ghee
  1. Take some curd in a bowl and add rajgira flour, salt, sugar and water. Whisk well.
  2. Now heat some ghee and add cumin seeds, curry leaves, green chili-ginger paste and sauté it well.
  3. Add some coriander leaves and stir well.
  4. Add diced potatoes and diced purple yam (kand). Sauté them well. Close lid and let it cook for 3-5 minutes.
  5. Now add the curd mixture and stir well. Add salt as per taste and mix well. We have already added salt in the curd mixture so add little bit less salt.. Close lid and cook the ingredients well.
  6. Kand Bataka Nu Shaak is ready, enjoy with Moraiyo and Rajgira No Rotlo.
