Vegetable Masala Bhat Recipe | Maharashtrian Masala Bhaat | Gujarati Rasoi

Masala Bhat is a popular Maharashtrian recipe which consists of rice cooked with some vegetables and some spices. This recipe is garnished with grated coconut which gives a nice sweet taste to the rice. The recipe consists of whole spices and vegetables like peas, carrots, potatoes, toamtoes which makes the Bhaat rich in taste. Masala Bhaat can be an excellent dinner recipe to make for your friends and family. Recipe: Ingredients:
  • 2.5 Cups of Basmati Rice
  • 1 Finely Chopped Onion
  • 1 Chopped Tomato
  • 2-3 Chopped Carrots (Gajar)
  • 150 Grams Green Peas (Matar)
  • 2 Lengthwise Chopped Potatoes
  • 3-4 Lengthwise Chopped Green Chillies (Hari Mirch)
  • 12-15 Cashew Nuts (Kaju)
  • 1 Teaspoon Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
  • 5-6 Black Pepper (Sabut Kali Mirch)
  • 2-3 Cinnamon Sticks (Dalchini)
  • 4-5 Cloves (Laung)
  • 2-3 Bay Leaves (Tej Patta)
  • 1.5-2 Teaspoon Ginger-Garlic (Adrak Lehsun) Paste
  • ½ Teaspoon Turmeric Powder (Haldi)
  • 1.5-2 Teaspoon Red Chilli (Lal Mirch) Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Dhana Jeera Powder
  • 1-1.5 Teaspoon Garam Masala
  • 3 Teaspoons of Ghee
  • Salt
  • Water
  • Oil
Procedure:
  1. Heat oil and cumin seeds, black pepper, cinnamon, cloves, bay leaves and stir well.
  2. Add chopped onion and stir till it turns transparent.
  3. Add tomato and stir well.
  4. Add green chillies, ginger-garlic paste and stir well.
  5. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, garam masala, dhana jeera powder and mix well.
  6. Add potatoes, carrots, green peas and cashew nuts. Mix well.
  7. Add Basmati rice and mix well.
  8. Add salt and water and stir well. Add around 4 cups of water.
  9. Add ghee over it.
  10. Pressure cook for 2-3 whistles.
  11. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and grated coconut.
  12. Masala Bhat is ready.
