Methi Papad Nu Shaak | Gujarati Shaak Recipe | Gujarati Rasoi

An unusual recipe consisting of fenugreek seeds and Papads. We would recommend using Garlic Papad to give the recipe a nice spicy taste. This recipe consists of fenugreek (methi) seeds which have medicinal benefits and thus this recipe is full of nutrients. Recipe: Ingredients:
  • 5-6 Papads
  • ¼ Cup Soaked Fenugreek Seeds (Methi Daane)
  • 1 Chopped Onion
  • 1 Chopped Tomato
  • 1 Teaspoon Mustard Seeds (Rai)
  • 1 Teaspoon Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
  • ½ Teaspoon Asafoetida (Hing)
  • 2 Dried Red Chillies (Sukhi Lal Mirch)
  • 8-10 Curry Leaves (Kadi Patta)
  • 3-4 Chopped Green Chillies (Hari Mirch)
  • 8-10 Chopped Garlic (Lehsun)
  • ½ Inch Chopped Ginger (Adrak)
  • ½ Teaspoon Turmeric Powder (Haldi)
  • 1.5- 2 Teaspoon Red Chilli Powder (Lal Mirch)
  • 2 Teaspoon Dhana Jeera Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Garam Masala
  • Coriander Leaves (Dhania)
  • Salt
  • Oil
  • Water
Method:
  1. Heat some oil and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida, dried red chillies and curry leaves.
  2. Now add garlic cloves, chopped ginger and chopped green chillies. Fry well.
  3. Add chopped onion and stir till it turns transparent.
  4. Now add chopped tomato and cook it well.
  5. Add turmeric powder, dhana jeera powder, red chilli powder and garam masala. Mix the masalas well.
  6. Add soaked fenugreek seeds, salt and mix well. Soak fenugreek seeds for at 3 hours to reduce the bitterness.
  7. Add water as per requirement and let the shaak boil.
  8. After a boil add the papad pieces and stir well.
  9. Let it cook for a while and garnish it with coriander leaves.
