Gujarati Dal Recipe | Tomato Mirchi Dal | Gujarati Rasoi

This traditional Dal recipe prominently consists of tomato and green chilies. These two ingredients give a tangy and spicy flavor to this Dal. This Gujarati Dal recipe is prepared using Tur Dal and is very quick to make. Gujarati Tur Dal recipe is very nutritious and tasty to eat. This Dal recipe can be enjoyed with simple steamed rice. Recipe: Ingredients:
  • 1.5 Cups of Tur Dal
  • 5-6 Finely Chopped Garlic Cloves (Lehsun)
  • 2-3 Lengthwise Chopped Green Chillies (Hari Mirch)
  • 1 Finely Chopped Tomato
  • 10-12 Curry Leaves (Kadi Patta)
  • 1 Teaspoon Mustard Seeds (Rai)
  • 1 Teaspoon Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
  • ½ Teaspoon Asafoetida (Hing)
  • ½ Teaspoon Turmeric Powder (Haldi)
  • ¾ Teaspoon Red Chilli (Lal Mirch) Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Dhana Jeera Powder
  • Coriander Leaves (Dhania)
  • Salt
  • Water
  • Oil
Procedure:
  1. Boil Tur Dal for 5-6 whistles in a pressure cooker.
  2. Mash the dal well.
  3. Heat some oil and garlic cloves, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida, curry leaves and stir well.
  4. Add green chillies, chopped tomato and sauté it well.
  5. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, dhana jeera powder and mix well.
  6. Add the mashed tur dal and mix well.
  7. Add salt as per taste and water. Stir well.
  8. Stir till the dal starts to boil
  9. 9. Garnish it with coriander leaves. Gujarati dal is ready to serve.
