Besan is an authentic Maharashtrian Recipe which is made up of gram flour flavored with garlic, tomato and some traditional spices. Pithla Bhakri is the staple food of the state of Maharashtra especially in the parts of Marathwada, Khandesh and Paschim Maharashtra. Pithla is enjoyed with bajrichi bhakri and spicy thecha. Recipes Only has uploaded the thecha recipe, so do try out both Pithla and Thecha and enjoy a traditional and simple Maharashtrian Meal. Recipe: Ingredients:
  • 3-4 Cups of Gram Flour
  • 1 Tomato
  • Coriander Leaves
  • 8-10 Chopped Garlic Cloves
  • 2 Teaspoon Crushed Green Chilies
  • 3 Teaspoon Ginger-Garlic Paste
  • ½ Teaspoon Asafoetida (Hing)
  • ½ Teaspoon of Turmeric Powder
  • 3 Teaspoon Red Chili Powder
  • Water
  • Oil
Procedure:
  1. Heat some oil and add asafoetida powder.
  2. Add 8-10 chopped garlic cloves and cook them till golden brown.
  3. Now add 8-10 cups of water and cook for 3-5 minutes.
  4. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, ginger garlic paste, crushed green chilies and stir well.
  5. Now add salt as per taste and mix the salt.
  6. Add the gram flour and whisk it well to remove the lumps.
  7. Add diced tomato and cook for 8-10 minutes with closed lid.
  8. Open the lid add ½ cup of coriander leaves and pithla is ready.
  9. Enjoy the pithla with hot bhakri and spicy thecha.
