Upma | Breakfast Recipe | Gujarati Rasoi

Upma is a traditional South Indian breakfast recipe that is enjoyed all over India. This recipe is a quick recipe to make and consists of minimum ingredients. Upma is made using sooji (rava) and is cooked with fresh vegetables like peas, carrots and any crunchy vegetable as per your choice. Freshly cut green chillies give the upma a spicy taste. Recipe: Ingredients –
  • 1 Cup Semolina (Suji)
  • 1 Chopped Tomato
  • 1 Chopped Carrot
  • ½ Cup Green Peas
  • 1 Chopped Onion
  • 1 Teaspoon Urad Dal
  • 5-6 Finely Chopped Green Chilies
  • 1 Teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • 8-10 Curry Leaves (Kaddi Patta)
  • Coriander Leaves
  • Warm Water
  • Salt
Method –
  1. Roast semolina (rava) and keep aside.
  2. Heat oil and add mustard seeds, urad dal, curry leaves and green chillies.
  3. Add chopped onions and stir till it turns transparent.
  4. Add green peas, chopped tomato and chopped carrot.
  5. Close lid and let it cook for 2-3 minutes.
  6. Now add roasted semolina and stir well.
  7. Add salt as per taste.
  8. Add 2.5 cups of warm water and stir continuously till the semolina absorbs water.
  9. Add lemon juice and mix well.
  10. Cook for 2 minutes.
  11. Add some coriander leaves and Upma is ready to eat.
