Pooran Poli is a traditional Maharashtrain Recipe often made on occasions like Bail Pola, Holi, Ganesh Chaturthi and on other auspicious days. Pooran Poli consists of a filling of chana dal and jaggery or sugar which is simmered on low heat and then filled in wheat based dough and rolled into a chapatti. Recipe:
Ingredients –
- 500 Grams of Chana Dal
- 300 Grams Sugar
- Wheat Dough
- ¼ Teaspoon Dried Ginger Powder (Sonth)
- ¼ Teaspoon Nutmeg (Jaiphal) Powder
- ¼ Teaspoon Cardamom (Elaichi) Powder
- Boil and drain chana dal and then add it to a kadhai.
- Add sugar and mix until the mixture dries.
- Add sonth, elaichi powder and jayphal powder. Mix well.
- Now pass the hot mixture through a sieve.
- Take a small portion from the wheat dough, dust it with some flour and make a small bowl shape to fill the pooran (filling).
- Put the filling inside the dough and close the ends of the dough.
- Flatten the dough and then roll it into a poli i.e chapatti.
- Roast the poli on a tawa with some ghee.
- Puran Poli is ready.
