Karela Nu Shaak is a popular Gujarati traditional recipe. Karela or Bitter Gourd is a very nutritious vegetable but it is often disliked by kids. This traditional Gujarati Shaak recipe can help you to make the bitter Karela a tasty treat for your family. This recipe can be enjoyed with rotli or even with bhakri.
Recipe:
Ingredients –
- 200 Gram Bitter Gourd
- 1 Teaspoon Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
- ½ Teaspoon Asafoetida (Hing)
- ½ Teaspoon Turmeric Powder
- 2 Teaspoon Coriander-Cumin Seed Powder (Dhana Jeera Powder)
- 2 Teaspoon Red Chilli Powder
- 1 Teaspoon Kitchen King Masala
- Salt
- Peel the bitter gourd (karela) well and slice it evenly.
- Remove the seed of the bitter gourd to reduce the bitterness.
- Now in a bowl, take these karela and add some salt and let it rest for 10-15 minutes.
- After resting, squeeze out the water out of the bitter gourd.
- In a utensil, heat some oil and add cumin seeds, asafoetida and turmeric powder.
- Now add the bitter gourd and stir fry it well in the masala.
- Add salt as per taste.
- Close lid and cook for 3-5 minutes.
- Now add dhana jeera powder, red chilli powder and kitchen king masala.
- Let the bitter gourd become little bit stiff.
- Add 1.5-2 teaspoon sugar and mix well.
- Karela Nu Shaak is ready to eat.
