Dal Fry | Punjabi Dal Fry Recipe | Gujarati Rasoi

Dal Fry is classic Punjabi recipe with nutritious dal cooked in pure desi ghee and some traditional Indian spices. This dal recipe is cooked with some onions and tomatoes to give it a nice tasty flavour. Dal Fry is enjoyed with jeera rice and some papads. Recipe: Ingredients –
  • 1 Cup Tur Dal
  • 1 Tablespoon Chana Dal
  • 1 Chopped Onion
  • 1 Chopped Tomato
  • 1-1.5 Teaspoon Ginger-Garlic Paste
  • 4-5 Cloves (Laung)
  • 4-5 Black Peppercorns (Sabut Kali Mirch)
  • 2-3 Bay Leaves (Tej Patta)
  • 1 Teaspoon Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
  • ½ Teaspoon Turmeric Powder (Haldi)
  • 1-1.5 Teaspoon Red Chilli Powder (Lal Mirch)
  • 2 Teaspoon Dhana Jeera Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Kitchen King Masala
  • 1-1.5 Teaspoon Dried Fenugreek Leaves (Kasuri Methi)
  • Salt
  • 1 Teaspoon Butter
  • Ghee
Method –
  1. Soak tur dal and chana dal for 30 minutes.
  2. Heat some ghee and add 1 teaspoon butter and melt it.
  3. Now add cloves, black peppercorns, bay leaves, cumin seeds and mix well.
  4. Now add chopped onion and stir till it turns golden brown.
  5. Add ginger garlic paste and stir well.
  6. Add chopped tomato and sauté it well.
  7. Now add turmeric powder, dhana jeera powder, red chilli powder, kitchen king masala and kasuri methi.
  8. Now add the soaked & drained chana dal and soaked & drained tur dal.
  9. Add salt as per taste.
  10. Mix all ingredients well.
  11. Add some water as per requirement and pressure cook for 4-5 whistles.
  12. Dal Fry is ready to eat.
