Bataka Paua is a traditional Gujarati breakfast which is enjoyed all over Gujarat. Adding diced potato to normal poha recipe gives a different taste to the recipe. The secret ingredient in Gujarati Bataka Paua recipe is the black pepper powder which is added just before switching off the flame to give a chatpata taste to the pauva. Bataka Pauva consists of flattened rice (pauva) cooked in green chillies, curry leaves and some traditional aromatic spices and is considered as a healthy breakfast.
Recipe:
Ingredients –
- 3 Cups Soaked Poha
- 2 Diced Potatoes
- 1 Chopped Onion
- 2 Teaspoon Peanuts
- 2-4 Chopped Green Chillies
- 12-15 Curry Leaves (kaddi patta)
- 1 Teaspoon Mustard Seeds
- ½ Teaspoon Turmeric Powder
- Black Pepper Powder
- Juice of ½ Lemon
- Coriander Leaves
- Sugar
- Salt
- Oil
- Heat oil and stir fry the peanuts.
- Now in the same oil add mustard seeds, kaddi patta, green chillies and chopped onion. Stir till onion turns transparent.
- Now add diced potatoes and cook well.
- Add turmeric powder and mix well.
- Add 3 cups of soaked poha.
- Add salt, lemon juice and sugar. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Sprinkle some black pepper powder; add the fried peanuts and some coriander leaves.
- Bataka Paua is ready to eat.
